HEALTHY PARENTING
The New Parent Support Team (NPST) is a
program provided for military members and their families who are expectant
parents or are parents of a newborn. The NPST is a program developed
to serve parents requesting information on promoting positive parent/child
interaction and healthy child development through education and
consultation. All military personnel and family members who are
expectant parents or parents of a newborn are eligible to
participate.
The purpose of the NPST is to help you reduce some of the
stress of having a new baby, before and after the birth, and coping with other
situations at the same time. This is done by working with a Family
Support Worker who will be a friend that you can count on. The FSW
can help give you and your baby the most valuable gift of
all: Loving, nurturing and happy parents. The FSW will
teach you ways to care for your baby that will help her become the very best she
can be. The NPST is a voluntary program provided to you the the
Department of the Navy.
Some of the services offered by the NPST are as
follows:
Pre-natal Classes, Parenting Classes, Father/Infant Bonding,
Support Groups, Prepared Childbirth Classes, Breastfeeding Seminars, Child
Development Information, Infant/Child CPR Classes, Resource Library, Home
Visits, Consultations. Other members of the team
are: Cheryl Mills, RN; Patricia Cadena, RN; and Lynda Wood,
RN.
