Camp Pendleton
Located 38 miles north of downtown San Diego,
Camp Pendleton covers over 250,000 acres and approximately 200 square miles of
terrain. The stretch of shoreline along the base-- 17 miles -- is the largest
undeveloped portion of coastal area left in Southern California.
Camp
Pendleton provides training facilities for many active-duty and reserve Marines,
Army and Navy units, as well as national, state and local agencies. Over 60,000
military and civilian personnel work aboard the base every day.
MCRD San
Diego
Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego is one of two recruit training
bases in the United States. It is home to the Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast
Guard personnel, though the depot in San Diego has just 388 acres. MCCS supports
all active duty personnel, their family members, reservists, and retired
military personnel. Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego is one of the
birthplaces of basically trained Marines. It is here where America's young men
are transformed into Marines. Marines are forged in a furnace of shared hardship
and tough training. This shared, intense experience creates bonds of comradeship
and standards of conduct so strong that Marines will let nothing stand in their
way.
MCAS Miramar
Miramar is a former cattle and citrus ranch that
was first acquired by the military for Army Infantry Training in 1914 and was
named Camp Kearny. On 1 October 1997 Naval Air Station Miramar
realigned to Marine Corps Air Station bringing fighter and helicopter squadrons
from El Toro. Miramar is the Marine Corp's largest aviation
facility.
NB San Diego
Naval Station is homeport for approximately 60
Navy ships and homebase to 50 separate commands, each having specific and
specialized fleet support purposes. It is the workplace for approximately 48,000
military and civilian personnel. Three thousand men and women are housed in
modern, attractive bachelor quarters.
NB Pt Loma
Submarine base Pt
Loma is homeport for approximately 5 submarines and homebase to 25 separate
commands.
