The Youth Center program provides services after school, during holidays and in the summer.  The Youth Activities After School Program is designed to provide after school activities, enrichment, recreation, and care for children ages 5-12 years old.  The program provides a safe, secure, and enriching environment for school age children supervised by a trained and caring staff.

The After School Program uses an age-appropriate curriculum to provide educational and recreational activities geared to the interests of school age children.  Arts, crafts, music, drama, sports, games and individual and group study activities are included.  Summer camp includes swimming, gymnastics and field trips at no additional cost to parents.

SPONSORSHIP
Youth sponsorship is provided by age and interest.  Sponsorship is a great way to make new friends.  Our program is individual-to-individual. To obtain a sponsor, notify either Youth Services or Relocation Assistance at Columbus AFB.  Columbus AFB has limited employment opportunities for youth with NAF and appropriated fund activities.

The Youth Center is a modern center with lots of activities for the youth.  It has a computer room with many games, and both indoor and outdoor basketball courts.

The city of Columbus is about eight miles from the base.  There is no public transportation, so you need to have a drivers license.  You can get a learners permit at age 15.  It is valid for one year.  If you use a learners permit you must have a licensed driver age 21 or older in the car with you.  At age 16 you can apply for a drivers license.  To get a drivers license you must be at least 16 years of age and both parents must sign for permits and licenses if you are under age 17.  Licensed drivers do not have to have someone else in the car when you drive, only while you have a learners permit are you required to have another person who is at least 21 years of age in the car.

SPORTS
A traveling basketball league has been formed and they travel to surrounding bases and cities to play.  Also, inline hockey, baseball, softball, soccer, and flag football are played.  A competitive swim program was started.  A batting cage is available to practice your swings.  There is a nine hole golf course and a driving range on base.  The golf pro gives special lessons to teens.

The base has a curfew:  Ages 12 and under must be in the house by 9:00 pm.m.  Ages 13 - 15 by 10:30 p.m., and age 16 and older by 12:00 midnight.

The Youth Center and Family Support Center have a pen pal program.  If you would like a pen pal before arriving at Columbus AFB please refer to the listing for the address.
