The term "vehicle" includes motorcycles, automobiles, trailers,
vans, boats regularly parked or garaged overnight in North Carolina.
Seat
Belts are mandatory - wear them! It's a DoD regulation and a North
Carolina state law that seat belts will be worn in government and civilian
vehicles on or off station by all vehicle occupants. A child less
than 6 years of age must be restrained, no matter where seated, by an
appropriate child restraint system. Children, 4 years old and under, must be in
a federally approved child car safety seat.
ACCIDENTS occurring aboard
Cherry Point and in the adjacent communities must be reported. The
law protects a person who stops and renders aid at a scene of an accident from
civil liability except for intentional wrongdoing or unruly
conduct. If you are in an accident, you must: (1) give
your name and automobile registration number as well as the name of your
automobile insurance company; (2) be certain to get the same information from
others who were involved in the accident; and (3) if you do not know who was in
the other car, or whose property was damaged, write down all the information you
can gather and give it to the nearest police officer.
You are required by
law to make an immediate report to the nearest enforcement officer or agency of
any accident in which any person is killed or injured or in which the total
damage to cars and other property appears to amount to $500 or
more. Failure to do so may result in prosecution, and your driver's
license may be suspended.
You should also report an accident to your
insurance company. In certain cases, North Carolina law requires that
the driver of any vehicle involved in a reportable accident provide proof of
financial responsibility (liability insurance) on special forms sent by the
Division of Motor Vehicles. These forms must be completed and filed
with the DMV.
CRIMINAL OFFENSES............... : Must be
reported to the Provost Marshal's Office (PMO) (Phone No. 466-3615 or dial
911)for emergencies. The Havelock Police can be reached at
447-3212. If the offense is of such an extent, you can call the Naval
Investigative Service (NIS) at 466-2641.
PMO conducts several CRIME
PREVENTION PROGRAMS: (1) Operation Crime Stop is a confidential
reporting line for the anonymous reporting of crimes (phone# 466-4111); (2) The
Child Identification (fingerprinting) Program is designed to help law
enforcement officials in the identification and/or location of missing, lost, or
abducted children; (3) Operation ID is designed to discourage burglaries and
theft through the marking and registering of personal property for personnel
living in barracks or government housing, and for civilians working at Cherry
Point.
CRIME STOPPERS is also located in Morehead City, NC (about 20
miles to the east on Highway 70). The phone number is 726-4636 (a
local call from Havelock/Cherry Point).
North Carolina law requires a
minimum insurance coverage of at least $15,000 property damage coverage, $25,000
per person per occurrence/$50,000 total per occurrence for bodily
injury. These figures apply to register your vehicle aboard Cherry
Point.
YOU WILL ALSO NEED A N.C. STATE OR COUNTY FISHING
LICENSE TO FISH IN THE PONDS OR CREEKS IF YOU ARE USING ARTIFICIAL LURES OR IF
YOU ARE NOT A RESIDENT OF CRAVEN COUNTY. ALL ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY
PERSONNEL ASSIGNED TO MCAS CHERRY POINT ARE CONSIDERED RESIDENTS OF CRAVEN
COUNTY. STATE Fishing Licenses may be purchased at the Exchange or
Wal-Mart in Morehead City. Possessing a State license is a good idea
to avoid a mistake that could cost you $85 for using artificial lures, or for
fishing outside your county of residence without a proper
license.
Fishing in Slocum and Hancock Creeks adjacent to MCAS Cherry
Point is allowed subject to the license requirements cited above. A Cherry Point
permit is not required.
