There are numerous family life skills programs available to you
and your family on Charleston AFB.
The Family Support and
Family Advocacy offer healthy parenting workshops. Additionally, at
the Family Support Center there is a multitude of books and videos that can be
checked out.
The Community has a helpline and teenline that
may also be helpful.
The major program areas are Outreach, the New Parent
Support Program (NPSP) and Treatment/Counseling Program. Outreach
programs and services include training, classes, workshops and groups to address
the issues of parenting, couples communication, marriage enrichment, self
esteem, sexual abuse prevention, and conflict resolution. The Moms
Morning Out Playgroups are also an option.
The NPSP program
provides nurses who make home visits to provide education, assistance, and
support. The nurses work with families with children ages 3 years and
younger. Free books, tapes, calendars, growth charts, tubby testers
(for bath water); and assistance with obtaining breast pumps in coordination
with Air Force Aid are available to program participants. The
Building Blocks for Babies Program is a wonderful new parent program that offers
tons of information and useful baby items.
