The family plays an important part in the achievement of the Air
Force mission by having a direct impact on the service member s ability to
perform his or her assigned duties. The Family Advocacy Program
supports the Air Force mission by strengthening families.
The Family Advocacy
Program helps to prevent family maltreatment, provide parenting and life-skills
education, identify and refer families with exceptional educational or medical
needs, and identify, report, assess, and treat families who are experiencing
family maltreatment.
The program offers three areas of service:
The
Outreach Program provides community awareness and education programs to
strengthen healthy families and to prevent the occurrence/reoccurrence of family
maltreatment.
The New Parent Support Program prepares and supports parents to
effectively handle the pregnancy, birth, and up through the first three years of
infant care. The program offers free books, baby care items and
handouts regarding pregnancy, childbirth and baby care, parenting classes, home
visits, education, emotional support and information. Program
services can be started at anytime during the pregnancy or after delivery and
continue as needed until your baby is three years old.
The Special Needs
Identification & Assignment Coordination Process identifies active duty
service personnel with family members with special educational or medical,
including psychological, needs. It helps those families obtain
information about required services, and ensures they have access to necessary
services when reassigned. Special needs identification is mandatory
for active duty sponsors whose family members meet identification criteria
established by the Department of Defense. The process includes
identification, coordination of the Family Member Relocation Clearance, the
Facility Determination Inquiry, Special Needs TDY/PCS Deferment and
Reassignment.
