For Post-Secondary Education, the Charleston AFB Education Center
offers a wide range of educational services and programs to help people fulfill
their educational goals. Six colleges and universities offer programs
on base and have offices co-located with the Education Services Center.
Education counselors are available to help both active duty and dependents with
their educational goals and explain procedures on use of benefits and starting
programs. Complete testing facilities are available, to include CLEP,
DANTES, SAT, GRE, PRAXIS, ASE, ECI, and other specialized tests. Many
sources of financial aid, including the Pell Grant, are available from colleges
for airmen and family members. Military members and their dependents
pay in-state tuition costs rather than the higher out-of-state costs when they
attend state-supported colleges in South Carolina. (Not all schools
do this. Some charge dependents out-of-state tuition
rates.)
There are a large variety of education options available in the
Community. Trident Technical College, Charleston Southern University,
The Citadel, College of Charleston, Miller Motte Technical College, Medical
University of South Carolina, Webster University, Johnson & Wales
University, Limestone college, Roper Hospital School of Practical Nuring, and
Southern Wesleyan University. There are several vocational schools in the area
as well.
On base colleges and universities include: City Colleges
of Chicago, Park University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Southern
Illinois University, and Webster University.
There are a multitude of
adult and continuing education options within commuting distance of Charleston
AFB. Opportunities range from high school completion programs to
vocational schools.
