The Onslow Department of Social Services administers a number of
public assistance programs and services. The object is to help
individuals and families with problems that cannot be handled
alone. Government funded services and programs for those in need are
offered. Some services require a fee; however, most are free to
eligible individuals. Here is a list of just a few of the programs
offered:
AID TO FAMILIES WITH DEPENDENT CHILDREN - provides for qualified
children deprived of parental care and support by death, physical or mental
incapacity, or the continued absence from the home of one or both parents, or
the unemployment/underemployment of parents.
CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT -
finds parents not living with their children and obtains - through court action,
if necessary - financial support for those children.
DAY CARE
FUNDS FOR CHILDREN - are available for eligible working parents in certified
day-care centers and through individual arrangements. For more
information about these government-funded programs telephone the Onslow County
Department of Social Services.
