Members with a special needs family member should be enrolled in the Special Needs Identification Program through the Family Advocacy Program Center.  This office maintains a listing of local and national resources.
The Denver Metro area offers numerous services for individuals with special needs.  United Way is also an excellent starting point to locate available resources in the community: 303-433-8383.

Special Needs Children Arriving at Buckley AFB:
BRING COPIES OF ALL PAPERWORK:  
- Medical records
- School records
- Documentation of how child was tested (results are valid for 3 years from date of test)

FOR EDUCATIONAL NEEDS:
- If under age 3, contact Early Childhood Intervention at 325-658-6571.
- If over age 3, contact the school district in which you reside for their requirements.  Contact principal of school to request an appointment with the school guidance counselor to schedule an Individualized Education Plan, or Individualized Training Plan.  If unable to contact principal, call the Family Support Center School Liaison for assistance.

FOR CHILDCARE NEEDS:
- For on-base childcare must provide a note from the Medical Primary Clinic indicating any necessary modifications to environment, staffing, or activities.  There is not an additional charge for special needs children.

- For off-base childcare or before/after school care, details vary depending upon child's needs and resources at the center.  Care may not be available at some centers.  There may be an extra charge.

FOR MEDICAL NEEDS and enrollment in the SPECIAL NEEDS IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM (formerly EFMP), contact the Buckley Primary Clinic listed in the Contacts section.

TO LOCATE ADDITIONAL RESOURCES IN THE COMMUNITY:
Call United Way at 303-433-8383.

IF A DISABILITY OR DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY IS SUSPECTED, BUT NOT DIAGNOSED:
Schedule an appointment through the Medical Primary Clinic.
OR,
- if under age 3, call Buckley Family Advocacy.
- if over age 3, call principal of school district in which child resides.  If unable to contact principal, call the Buckley Family Support Center School Liaison.

If a diagnosis is made, inform the Special Needs Identification Program at Buckley Family Advocavy.
