The Exceptional Family Member Program is the multi-service program
that is designed to insure that families with special needs are stationed near
military or civilian facilities that can meet their special needs. This program
provides support for the family, information and resources in the community for
the family to access, and assistance to the family in obtaining any special
equipment or other necessities that would help make life a little easier.
FAMILY ADVOCACY: INTERVENTION: It is Air Force policy to identify,
report, assess, treat and provide other services to victims of domestic violence
and their familes in both child and spouse maltreatment incidents. The Family
Advocacy Treatment Manager intervenes when child abuse or spouse maltreatment
has occurred and works with the family members on an individual, marital, family
and/or group therapy basis. This provides individuals with the counseling,
support, information and resources necessary to help them cope with the recent
domestic maltreatment incident and help prevent future reccurrances.
PREVENTION: New Parent Support Program (FAN) The thrill of having
children is one of life's most wonderful and challenging experiences. However,
parenthood is the role we are least prepared. The goal is to enhance these
experiences by providing education and support services to parents. The program
offers free books, handouts and information on pregnancy, child birth, baby
care, marital issues, parent/child conflict, and communication. Also offered are
parenting classes, home visits, education, support and referral services and
information. Program services can be started at any time during pregnancy or
after delivery and continue as needed until the baby is three years old.
OUTREACH: The Family Advocacy Outreach Program is set up to enhance
military family functioning through education and referral resources ultimately
reducing the occurrence and reoccurrence of family maltreatment. The program
works collaboratively with other military and base agencies in order to provide
effective primary and secondary prevention programs to meet the needs of the
community.
