Current registration is required to drive on or off base. Maine
charges an annual excise tax that must be paid prior to registration. Military
members that are not Maine residents are exempt from this tax with a statement
of non-residency that must be shown at the DMV. This statement is available
through the Navy Legal Services Office.
A state inspection is required
annually as well. Many places in town offer this inspection as well as MWR's
Auto Hobby on base.
