No major shopping malls in the Beaufort area. We do have a
Wal-Mart Supercenter, Lowes, K-Mart, Big Lots, Belks, JC Penney's and Stein
Mart.
Bluffton, 30 minutes away is booming with outlet
shopping. In Hilton Head, 45 minutes away a small mall and a Sam's Club are
available. Savannah, Georgia, is 1 hour away with two shopping malls and
Charleston, South Carolina, is 1 hour, 15 minutes away, also with two malls.
Both Savannah and Charleston have all your major stores available.
The
local sales tax for Beaufort County is 5%. Twenty-five counties in South
Carolina impose an additional 1% local option sales tax. The combined sales tax
rate in these counties is 6%. The counties which have approved a local tax are:
Abbeville, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Berkeley, Charleston, Cherokee,
Chesterfield, Clarendon, Colleton, Darlington, Dillon, Edgefield, Florence,
Hampton, (Two counties in South Carolina impose an additional 2% local sale tax.
The combined sales tax rate in these counties is 7%. The counties which have
approved two local taxes are Chesterfield and Jasper) Kershaw, Lancaster,
Laurens, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, McCormick, Pickens, Saluda, Sumter and
Williamsburg. A one-percent exclusion from state sales tax for individuals age
85 and older.
