The New Parent Support Program (NPSP) provides support services
to military families by facilitating healthy family functioning, increasing
parenting skills and knowledge of infant growth and development, and assisting
young families in developing social support within their
community. The NPSP helps families cope with stress, isolation,
post-deployment reunions and the everyday demands of parenthood. The
services we offer include:
Daddy's Baby Boot Camp/Mom's Basic
Training---Childbirth education classes that focus on basic infant care skills
including holding, changing, bathing and dressing a baby, childhood nutrition
and development, abuse prevention and communication.
Play
Morning---An interactive play group designed to teach parents developmentally
appropriate play and to help children improve their social, cognitive, and motor
skills.
Mom's Support Group---A weekly support group hat
offers peer socialization and professional support for military spouses
. Child care is provided.
Home Visits---Home
visitors are RN's and Master Level Social Workers that have extensive knowledge
of the issues encountered by today's parents and are sensitive to the unique
challenges facing military families. Home visits allow for a more
individualized approach to assisting young families by helping them prepare for
parenthood and to become more confident in their parenting
abilities.
All active duty military personnel who are
expecting a child, or who have a child under six years of age, are eligible to
participate free of charge in all of the services
offered.
Prevention Services offers a 9 week parenting class.
The parenting class curriculum includes the following subject matter: parenting
styles, discovering your child's personality type, child devilment, child's
self-esteem/concept, understanding feelings/ parent-child communication, and
discipline and behavior modification.
