Off-base
housing is available as close as 10 minutes from the main gate. Most people
elect to live in newer communities approximately 20 minutes from the main gate.
Rentals are available on a month-to-month basis, but many have required leases
from 3 to 12 months.
As a rule, it is difficult to find
rentals permitting pets. Usually large pet deposits are required. Additionally,
security and cleaning deposits vary from $150 to amounts equaling or exceeding
one month's rent.
Generally, rentals in this region do not include
natural gas or electricity bills. Utilities start at $50 per month and often
exceed $100 per month, especially during the hot summer months. Older homes and
apartments could have significantly higher utility bills. Local utility
companies will provide the average cost of utilities of most addresses for the
last year. This will help ensure you're renting an energy-efficient
home.
Utility deposits vary depending on criteria including credit
history. Copies of previous utility bills indicating a good payment history
should be helpful in the waiving of utility
deposits.
Furnished apartments are difficult to find and,
although rental furniture is available, it tends to be very costly to rent
furnishings.
