Prior to Your Move
Visit your local Family Support Center. Talking with a relocation specialist can help you understand the affect moving has on you, your family, your children and pets. The relocation specialist can also help make the moving process much easier and potentially save you money!

  • Request a sponsor. Contact your gaining unit or Family Support Center if you have not been assigned a sponsor. You'll find that a sponsor can greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to settle in.
  • Plan ahead for the financial costs associated with moving. California has high move-in costs for housing, typically in the $1,500 to $2,000 range. It is important not to rely upon advance pay or advanced BAH for your move. The resulting financial burden could result in future problems.
  • It might be time for a garage sale! One of the easiest ways to simplify your move is to sell off old clothing, toys and other items prior to shipping your goods. A garage sale often helps ensure you won't go over your allowable weight limits and makes unpacking much easier!

    Your Shipment
Your furnishings packed and shipped by a government contracted mover are referred to as household goods. You may have been authorized unaccompanied/hold baggage which is a separate shipment that usually arrives within a few days of arrival. All shipments except for self-moves are processed through the Traffic Management Office (TMO).

Your servicing TMO will assist you in scheduling your mover. It is very important to take a very detailed inventory of your belongings prior to shipping. Photographs of major furnishing items and appliances can help document the condition and age of your belongings in the event you need to file a claim for damage caused during shipping. You should carefully reveiw the shipper's inventory listing and review each comment regarding the condition of the item to ensure it is accurate. This will also ensure you are properly reimbursed for damage.

    Departing Your Former Home
There are several tasks you must remember to complete prior to departing your former residence:
  • Disconnect all utilities
  • Submit a change of address to the Post Office
  • Submit a change of address to all creditors
  • Notify your insurance companies of your new address
  • Service your vehicles prior to your trip to minimize the risk of mechanical breakdowns
  • Prepare a list of emergency contacts including former and new work-related phone numbers
  • Hand-carry shot records, birth certificates, marriage certificates, Social Security Card, military identification, passports, etc.
  • Ensure new spouses or children are enrolled in DEERS prior to departure

    Reporting Procedures
When arriving at Beale AFB during duty hours proceed to the squadron orderly room for inprocessing. You should contact your sponsor to help guide you through this process. If you cannot reach your sponsor, contact the Military Personnel Flight or the Family Support Center.

    First Term Airmen
After signing in with the squadron, all first-term airmen will be assigned to the First Term Airmen's Center (FTAC) for approximately 21 days. The FTAC Center is located between the Contrails Inn Dining Facility and the Education Center and Library.

    Check In at Lodging
For arrival after duty hours, proceed to the Gold Country Inn (Lodging) located on A Street. A statement of non-availability is required from the Gold Country Inn for reimbursement of off-base lodging costs. Therefore, ensure you check in with the Gold Country Inn before booking lodging off base.

    Married Enroute
If you get married enroute during your PCS, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as you are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if you do not follow the proper procedures.

    After you Arrive
  • If your sponsor does not meet you upon arrival, contact your sponsor immediately
  • Contact the base housing office to obtain a housing assignment or list of available local rental properties
  • Contact TMO to arrange delivery of your household goods
  • Carefully inspect all furnishings upon arrival and annotate any damage. File claims with the Legal Office at Beale in the event of damage within 70 days of delivery of household goods
  • Visit the Family Center for information including spouse employment, lending closet, newcomer's orientation, new spouse orientation, financial assistance, etc.
  • Notify family and friends you have arrived at Beale and provide them with contact information
