The YWCA of Northwest Louisiana, a non-profit agency, is a
membership organization, providing services to women and families in order to
empower women and girls and eliminate racism. The purpose of the YWCA Family
Violence Program is to offer safe refuge and support services to abused women
and their children. Services include: counseling, crisis intervention, referrals
and advocacy. There is a 24 hour crisis line (local and toll-free). Shelter is
provided on emergency basis with a 45 day limit. Counseling is offered
individually and there are groups for women and children. Legal advocacy is
offered for assistance in filing protective orders. The Family Violence program
has part-time counselors in three outreach offices located in Natchitoches,
Minden, and Coushatta.
