CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday:  6:15am - 6:00pm

Barksdale AFB Child Development Center (CDC) is proud to offer an exceptional child care program in support of the Barksdale mission.  They are ACC's longest nationally accredited Child Development program (National Academy of Early Childhood Programs).  The CDC provides a full range of quality care at some of the lowest fees in ACC.  Currently there is no annual registration fee and fees are based on family income.  Fees may be paid weekly or bi-weekly.

The CDC accommodates 190 children, 6 weeks to 5 years of age.  A waiting list for weekly care exists for all age groups at this time.  Individuals PCSing to Barksdale should stop by their local CDC and obtain an Application for Child Care, DD Form 2606.  Forward the completed application and a copy of PCS orders for advanced placement on the waiting list.  Your effective date on this list is the postmark on your application. You will receive a confirmation of placement on the list and an estimate of the expected wait.

The CDC currently offers two opportunities to provide parents with a "break" from parenting.  The Give Parents A Break program (funded by the Air Force Aid Society) is offered on the first Saturday night of the month from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Reservations are accepted up to two weeks in advance.  This program requires referral from an authorized official. Contact Family Support, the New Parent Support Program, or Family Advocacy for more information.

A Parent Advisory Committee consists of parents who are eligible to have children enrolled in the center and meets monthly.  The monthly meetings are chaired by a parent selected by the committee.  The focus of this group is to discuss on-going child care programs and topics of interest to parents.

The CDC also maintains a Parent Lending Library, which is located in the lobby.  A wide variety of parenting books, magazines and video tapes are available for parents to check out.  Several of the books are on the child's level and provide parents assistance in preparing their child for an upcoming event, i.e., moving, a new sibling, potty training, going on a trip, etc.  This library continues to expand.

Preschool (Part Day Enrichment)
Preschool is available up to five days a week for children 3 to 5 years of age.  The Barksdale program is the oldest NAEYC accredited Part Day Enrichment program in ACC.  Nutritious snacks, stimulating hands on curriculum, arts and crafts, music, dramatic play, story time and field trips are provided. Fees are based on family income and an annual fee of $10 is required.  Please provide a birth certificate, immunization records and current LES at the time of registration.

Family Home Care
Large groups aren't ideal for all children and the family child care program has just the solution.  For children that thrive in a smaller, more personal setting, we have many in-home child care providers.  Each home is limited to six or less children, allowing for more one-on-one care. Currently there are six family home care providers.

Extended Duty Care - Available for those needing occasional weekend or evening care beyond your 50 hour child care week.  Temporary shift changes and special circumstances may also apply.  This type of care can be provided at no cost to you.

Becoming a FHC Provider:  There is a tremendous need for certified providers, especially in the area of infant care.  Classes are taught that provide education, business, health & safety, nutrition and curriculum.  Being a provider is rewarding both financially and personally, giving you the opportunity to stay at home with your own children.

In addition, the New Parent Support Program offers education and support to all military families with children under the age of three.  Services are provided in the home.
