NSA Northwest Annex residents will find it difficult without a car, as public transportation does not reach the base.  The nearest stop made by Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is 14 miles north at the Great Bridge Shopping Center. From there connections can be made to all parts of the city, the beach, and area bases.  If you plan on purchasing a vehicle please stop by Fleet and Family Support Center Northwest for important tips on car buying strategies.

MWR provides scheduled shuttle bus runs each weekend (Fri.-Sun. and holidays) for active duty personnel.  The bus stops at Greenbrier Mall, Lynnhaven Mall, and the Virginia Beach oceanfront.  Stops at the Norfolk International Airport and other sites can be made upon request.  Bus schedules are extended to accommodate holidays when appropriate.  Shuttles depart from the Mariner Community Center/The Joint.  For more information, call the ITT/Liberty Shuttle at (757) 421-8628 or The Joint (757) 421-8107.

BUSES: The closest bus stop for the local bus system, HRT, is approximately 14 miles north of the base at the Great Bridge Shopping Center.  From there, buses can be caught to Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Portsmouth. Local buses stop at the Liberty/ ITT shuttle drop-off points.  Information for specific routes can be found at the HRT website.

TAXIS: A list of taxis is posted at the Mariner Center, bowling alley, US MCSFTC barracks, and the gym. A cab to Virginia Beach costs approximately $50 - $65.

AMTRAK: Amtrak offers service out of Newport News (about 75 minutes north of NSA Northwest Annex). Washington, DC is a 3-hour train ride from the Amtrak station in Newport News, VA. Connections can be made for destinations throughout the country.

AIRPORTS: primarily the Norfolk International Airport located about a one-hour drive north of NSA Northwest Annex services The TIDEWATER area.  Norfolk International Airport offers service by American, American Eagle, Continental,  Delta, Northwest, Southwest, United, United Express, US Airways, and US Airways Express airlines.

The PENINSULA area is served by the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, which is located in Newport News (about two hours north of NSA Northwest Annex) and offers service by AirTran Airways, US Airways/ US Airways Express, and Delta.

There are two military Mobility Air Commands (AMCs), one located at Langley AFB and the other at NAS Norfolk.

Recreational pilots can fly airplanes from several municipal airports in the area including:  Chesapeake, Suffolk, Newport News, Currituck and Fort Eustis.
