Off Post Transportation
I-95 and U.S. Route 40 are the two major highways. They traverse the county and link Harford County to the entire East Coast via the interstate highway system. U.S. Route -1 provides quick access to Philadelphia and eastern Pennsylvania. MD Route 213 is the north/south link to the Delmarva Peninsula.
The Harford County Transportation System has conveniently located bus stops throughout the Aberdeen area. They operate more than 50 local bus lines throughout Central Maryland, with local, express, and neighborhood shuttles. When riding the MTA bus service, pay the fare as you board with the required exact fare. The MTA operates two routes from Bel Air and three routes from Havre de Grace.
Harford County Transportation Service (HCTS) operates a public, dual-route system within the County. Under HCTS, the "Town-Go-Round" offers transportation to Bel Air residents. Another route involves Joppa, Edgewood, Route 24, Bel Air and Fallston.
The Maryland Rail Communter Service (MARC) is a 187-mile communter rail system providing service on three lines, each starting in Washington, DC and going to either Baltimore, Perryville, or Martinsburg, WV.
The Metro Subway system operates from the Owings Mills complex in Baltimore County to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Tickets must be purchased from a ticket vending machine at the station.
The Light Rail travels from Baltimore County's Hunt Valley complex to Cromwell Station in Anne Arundel County. There is also service to BWI Airport and Amtrak's Baltimore Penn Station. Tickets must be purchased from the vending machine before boarding Light Rail.
Amtrak provides intercity passenger rail service to more than 500 destinations in 46 states on a 22,000-mile route system. The Aberdeen Station provides passenger service for Amtrak trains connecting New York and Washington, D.C. Maryland Rail Commuter (MARC) has stations in Perryville, Aberdeen and Edgewood. Military Personnel on active duty and their dependents 12 years and older will receive a 25% discount off one-way fares at all times including holidays on Amtrak. Military dependents age 2-11 pay 50% off the military fare.
Baltimore/Washington International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport are located within 45 minutes and 1.5 hours respectively. To the south of BWI are Washington's National and Dulles International airports that provide service to major cities stateside/overseas. Three local airparks in Harford County provide charter service.
