Fort McPherson is approximately four miles from downtown Atlanta.

As a thriving city, there are countless places to visit and activities to keep you busy, no matter what your interests.  Atlanta has an abundance of historical sites, parks and a botanical garden for getting closer to nature, government buildings to explore, and more.

Georgia's total population in 2003 was 8,684,715 according to the U.S. Census Bureau estimate.  The metro Atlanta area, which includes the city limits and the 12 outlying metro counties, has a population of approximately 4 million.

Atlanta has made its mark as a transportation center, from its beginnings as a railroad terminal to its present status, a hub for world air traffic.  Over 4 million people reside in the seven county area that makes up metro Atlanta.  Besides being one of the largest state capitals, Atlanta is a regional center for the United States Government.

Atlanta is a beautiful city from any place or angle.  The skyline is breathtaking, the architecture superb, and the parks are splendid.  The city is full of wonderful places and events, for all to see and do.

Atlanta was the site for the 1996 Summer Olympics and, in 2000, the National Football League Super Bowl and the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.  In 2003 it hosted the Women's Final Four basketball competition and the NBA All-Star Game.
