ACCESS TO INSTALLATION: BY CAR: Charleston AFB is located 10 miles northwest of the city of Charleston; it is part of the city of North Charleston. It is nestled between US Interstate 26 and Dorchester Road (SC Highway 642). The gates are staffed by Security Forces 24 hours.
BY PLANE: Charleston AFB and the Charleston International Airport jointly use the runways. After landing, take a short taxi ride around the airport to a base gate. BY TRAIN OR BUS: One commercial bus line serves the Charleston area. There are two terminals; one in downtown Charleston and the other in North Charleston. Amtrack also serves the Lowcountry, and the station is located about three miles from the base in North Charleston.
Taxi service is available from all three stations. 100% ID check is required. Due to security issues, only taxi drivers with a valid Department of Defense ID card will be permitted to enter the base so be sure to ask for a driver that has an ID card.
