If reporting on the weekend, the first thing you must do is report to the Southern Pines Inn (lodging office) at 1535 Wright Brothers Avenue which is within sight of the main gate. The desk clerk will contact your sponsor or First Sergeant. If you are single, be sure to tell the desk clerk that this is your first assignment. Every effort will be made to get a room for you on base until you can move into your dorm room. If no rooms are available at the Southern Pines Inn or the dorms, only then will you be sent downtown. Unfortunately, since this is your first duty assignment you will not be reimbursed for this expense. This applies to married first duty station personnel also. That is why it is imperative that you save money for unexpected expenses.
If you are married, you will want to visit the Relocation Office or especially the Housing Office to learn the procedures to take before hunting for an apartment or house. Your First Sergeant will give you permissive TDY after arriving for house hunting.
Whether you are married or single, don't forget to contact your sponsor or First Sergeant upon arrival at SJAFB.
