Care for military family members of active-duty personnel is
provided to the extent facilities and staff capabilities
allow. Family members of assigned active-duty personnel requiring
medical treatment past on-base capability are referred to a civilian provider,
using TRICARE or the nearest medical facility.
Fox Army Hospital in
Huntsville, AL, is about 65 miles from Arnold. Blanchford Army
hospital at Fort Campbell, KY, is about 110-115 miles northwest of the
base. No full-time military physician is assigned
here. However, through a Department of Veterans Affairs sharing
agreement, a doctor is available for 1 1/2 hours each day
Monday-Friday. There is no sick call for military
personnel. However, active-duty people can contact the Air Force
Medical Aid Station any time during normal duty hours for appointments with the
independent duty medical technician. Active-duty military personnel
must be seen by the IDMT before making doctor's
appointments. Military personnel and their families' appointments are
scheduled Monday-Friday from 7-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
A reserve dental
officer handles routine dental work. Emergency dental care is
scheduled at the nearest military or civilian location as required by the
Medical Aid Station. Family members of active-duty military are not
eligible for dental care at the Medical Aid Station. Some local
dentists accept payments from military health programs. Under our new
guidance of TriCare Prime Remote (TPR) Dental, all active duty members assigned
to AEDC have a choice to choose who you would like to provide your dental
care. You may choose the dentist your family members are currently
utilizing, select another dental provider in the local area, or choose to
continue to utilize the military dental services at Redstone
Arsenal.
Below is a list of general dentists within a 35 mile radius to
choose from. If your family members are engaged with another dentist
not listed and you wish to also access care through them, please let the Medical
Aid Station know who they are and we will work with you in trying to establish
care. This initiative is being driven by a recommendation of the AFMC
Command Dental Surgeon to help us better serve your dental
needs. Once you make a selection, that dentist will be where you go
for routine dental care such as annul exams, cleanings, fillings,
etc... You will still be required to notify the Medical Aid Station
when you make an appointment to see your
dentist. Why? This is because you will need a Military
Medical Support Office (MMSO) claim form signed by one of the authorized medical
staff for the purpose of payment prior to your dental
appointment. This will ensure that you, as the active-duty member, do
not receive the bill for your dental visit. Routine care is
considered any dental care valued below $500. If you require dental
care exceeding $500 (i.e., crown, bridge, etc.), or exceed $1,500 annually in
dental care/treatment you will need a pre-authorization before that care can be
accomplished and we will need a treatment plan submitted by your dentist for
review.
