County School System: The Calhoun County School System
is composed of 10 elementary schools.

All schools are state
accredited. Community and business support is strong. Free
school bus transportation is available to students in their respective school
zones. Special transportation is available as needed for students with
disabilities.
Nutritionally balanced lunches are served
daily. Breakfast is also served in six of the elementary
schools. Free and reduced cost meals are available for those who
qualify for the program.
Extended day programs before and after school
are provided.
One example of our elementary school is Oxford Elementary
School. Their profile is as follows: Oxford is a small but
growing community with approximately 11,000 plus residents. Oxford
Elementary School is an elementary school serving approximately 970 students in
kindergarten - third grade. The school is a literacy demonstration
site for the Alabama Reading Initiative and serves as a model for reading
instruction in our region. Oxford Elementary School offers an
outstanding curriculum that includes arts, technology, and a research based
balanced approach to reading instruction. The school is supported
through an adopt-a-school program with Compass Bank, an active PTO and parent
volunteer organization. Oxford Elementary School is an accredited
member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the official
accreditation agency for the southern states.
