DO NOT SIGN A LEASE FOR OFF-BASE HOUSING UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN BRIEFED BY THE ANDREWS HOUSING OFFICE.  AFI / DOD Instructions require all military personnel reporting to a new duty station and requiring community housing to report to the Housing Flight Office prior to committing to leasing or purchasing off-base housing.

Visit the housing office for informative counseling concerning housing.  Good housing within commuting distance is available, but relatively expensive. For those interested in purchasing, sales properties are plentiful. Mortgage rates are at an all time low, reflecting the national average. Since the base is near major traffic arteries, Andrews personnel live in almost all of the Washington area's communities.  The Housing Flight will provide a computer listing organized according to type of housing desired (e.g., apartments, townhomes, single family homes for sale/rent, number of bedrooms required, price, and geographical location preferences).  You will also receive copies of base and area maps and briefings on housing in the immediate and surrounding areas.

RENTAL PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM (RPP):

The RPP is designed to provide military members and their families with affordable off-base housing.  The program assists by offering a trouble-free renting experience. Apartments are leased at reduced rental prices, in some cases, rents are equal to or lower than BAH rates.  Security deposits, credit checks, application fees, and minimum income requirements are usually waived.  The communities who participate in the Andrews AFB RPP will release you from your lease commitment without penalty, with a proper 30-day vacate notice to move into military family housing or into the dormitories. The housing office can provide you with a list of apartment complexes that participate.

RENTAL PROPERTIES AND PETS:

Most rentals do not allow pets.  If pets are allowed, they usually have a weight limit of 25 pounds.  Renters can expect to pay an additional deposit and, if carpeted, be required to have carpet professionally cleaned and sprayed for ticks and fleas.

You can call the Andrews Housing office from your current duty station.
