Head Start:  Head Start is a federally funded program which offers comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, health, and social services, along with a strong parent involvement focus, to low-income children nationwide. The goal of the program is to bring about a greater degree of social competence in preschool children from low-income families. Social competence refers to the child's everyday effectiveness in dealing with both his or her present environment and later responsibilities in school and life. It takes into account the interrelatedness of cognitive, intellectual, and social development; physical and mental health; and nutritional needs.  The program is open to ages 3 [by 15 Sep] and 4 year olds [by 31 Dec].

On-base Part Day Enrichment:  Operated by the Family Member Programs Flight in our Child Development Centers.  Part Day Enrichment is designed for three, four and five year old children who are not in need of center based full time childcare.  It is best described as a pre-school.  The curriculum focuses on the social skills needed transition to school and for a successful life. Teachers observe the children and target the best way each child learns.  For further information, contact Supplemental Programs and Services at (301) 981-9981.
