Then consider a Contextual Learning Environment (CLE) education for your budding scientist, performing artist, or scholar (there are 12 different CLE programs for children K-12). Prince Georges County has a Contextual Learning Environment (CLE) program beginning with Kindergarten. The program provides twelve program "themes" in 56 different schools. Special programs include Biotechnology, Creative & Performing Arts, Montessori, and many others. The curriculum and instructional program are designed to meet student's individual needs. Selection of students for the CLE program is accomplished via lottery. Auditions are required for performing arts applicants. You may wish to read the "Handbook of Private Schools" published by Porter Sargent, Inc. 1997 in your local library or contact the Maryland Department of Education, Non-public School Approval Branch, at 410-767-0408.
Your local Family Support Center Relocation Program Manager can also access information about Private Schools using resources they have in the center. The Family Support Center maintains a Schools Information handout.
