Appropriated and Non-appropriated fund (NAF) jobs at Altus AFB do
become available each week. A new job announcement list is published
weekly. For a listing of job vacancies contact NAF office at
580-481-7685. They can provide you with information on current job listings, job
applications and any other questions you may have. Military spouses
may be eligible for preference in some Department of Defense (DOD) hiring. DOD
has directed NAF Personnel Offices to give employment preference to spouses of
active duty military members of the Armed Forces who are relocating because of
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. To be eligible for
preference, the spouse must have received official orders authorizing the PCS
relocation. If the sponsor's orders are for training purposes, then
the training must be considered long term, i.e. 12 months or more. For training
less than 12 months, employment consideration at the time on DA Form 3433,
Application of Employment - NAFI", is submitted to Civilian
Personnel. The application must include a copy of the sponsor's PCS
orders and a completed "Certification of Eligibility for Spouse
Preference". A complete application packet will be required each time
the spouse applies. Eligibility begins 30 days prior to reporting
date to the new duty location. Once a spouse has used this preference
to obtain a NAF job, they are not allowed to receive spouse preference again
while at Altus AFB.
For job hunting purposes be sure to hand carry the

The vast majority of jobs in
our local economy are service sector jobs which offer lower salaries in
general. There are 12,000+ jobs in the local economy, most of which
are located in businesses with less than 50 employees.
The economy
created by Altus Air Force Base is a major portion of the overall local economy
and creates a cooperative atmosphere between the local employers and the Air
Force family job seeker. Most larger employers report that between
10-50% of their work force are Air Force family members.
Although Altus
is a small city with no large industries and a slightly lower average salary
than many locations, jobs do exist for qualified family
members. Computer skills, including word processing, increase chances
for employment.
