Military spouses may be eligible for
preference in some Department of Defense (DOD) hiring. DOD has directed NAF
Personnel Offices to give employment preference to spouses of active duty
military members of the Armed Forces who are relocating because of Permanent
Change of Station (PCS) orders. To be eligible for preference, the
spouse must have received official orders authorizing the PCS
relocation. If the sponsor's orders are for training purposes, then
the training must be considered long term, i.e. 12 months or more. For training
less than 12 months, employment consideration at the time on DA Form 3433,
Application of Employment - NAFI", is submitted to Civilian
Personnel. The application must include a copy of the sponsor's PCS
orders and a completed "Certification of Eligibility for Spouse
Preference". A complete application packet will be required each time
the spouse applies. Eligibility begins 30 days prior to reporting
date to the new duty location. Once a spouse has used this preference
to obtain a NAF job, they are not allowed to receive spouse preference again at
Altus AFB.
