Medical Clinic / Medical Care

Building 46 houses the base medical clinic, which offers basic outpatient medical care for active duty, TRICARE Prime retired members and their families. Most inpatient care is provided by Jackson County Memorial Hospital through the TRICARE system.
 
Outpatient care at the base clinic is available on an appointment basis by calling 481-5235. Active duty members needing an acute appointment can call beginning at 7 a.m. Anyone eligible for care may call 1-866-311-2396 for the 24-hour nursing advice line and out-of-area care information.
 
Emergency ambulance service is available by calling 911. The Jackson County Emergency Medical Service will respond to 911 calls from Altus AFB, the city of Altus and Jackson County. Jackson County Memorial Hospital provides emergency care for base residents. 
To get to Jackson County Memorial Hospital from on base, exit the front gate, turn left onto Veterans Drive, turn right on Broadway, turn left on South Park Ave., turn Right on East Pecan St.
Outpatient care provided at the base clinic includes family practice, limited gynecology services, pediatrics, optometry, immunizations, limited allergy services and the mental health. All clinics are supported by laboratory, pharmacy and radiology services.
 
Newcomers’ orientation includes a handout with medical services’ telephone numbers, clinic policies, and hours of operation for the services offered.
 
Enrollment and beneficiary information for TRICARE is available at 1-800-444-5445.

Dental Clinic

The dental clinic (Building 47) is a modern facility with 13 treatment rooms. Appointments for both sick call and non-emergency treatment can be made at 481-5262. Please call the command post, 481-6313, for after-hours dental emergencies.




OBSTETRICS PATIENTS:  Those OB patients who are 20 weeks or more along in their pregnancy and are having pregnancy-related problems after duty hours should call the OB ward at Jackson County Hospital at 580-481-2350 and then report as instructed by OB ward Personnel.  If less than 20 weeks preganan, contact your provider through TRICARE, at 1-800-406-2832.  Remember this is only for problems associated with pregnancy.

NOTE:  Active duty members must process through the 97th Medical Group for enrollment into the TRICARE Prime plan for themselves and family members.  Access to appointments/care at the clinics depends on which TRICARE plan was chosen.  Altus AFB is part of region VI which implemented TRICARE 1 November 1995.

PEDIATRIC CLINIC:  The Pediatric Clinic is staffed with two Pediatricians.  The hours of operation are 0730-1630.  Parents have an added benefit of being able to talk with a pediatric nurse for home care advice.  A lactation consultant is on staff to assist breastfeeding moms.  Call for an appointment or advice at 580-481-5235.

ACTIVE DUTY:  After duty hours all active duty are seen at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. First get authorization from their Primary Care Manager (PCM) by calling 1-800-406-2832.
