Employment Assistance Program:
This is the best single
source for job and career information both on and off base. You can get a head
start NOW by calling or e-mailing the Employment Assistance office at Family
Support Flight before you arrive in Altus. Advance notice gives us
time to begin the research process to help you shorten the time you are between
jobs. Be sure to hand carry your most current resume, work history,
(SF 171 or OF 612). Be sure and bring your most recent SF 50 if
you've been a federal government employee, copies of current licenses,
certifications, transcripts, etc. Shipping these items will only delay
your job hunting. It is also a good idea to have an updated resume on
disk, your new address and phone number can be added when you
arrive. Computers are available for use in the Family Support
Center's Resource room for these updates.
Arrange to receive copies of
the local daily newspaper as soon as you can after arriving. Since
Altus is a small community, the newspaper is an important source of job
openings. You can check local job postings through their website and
enter the classified ads. You can contact the Altus Times by calling
482-1221, or visiting their office at 218 W Commerce, Altus.
Transition
Assistance Program:
This program assists and helps those who are about to
retire or separate from the Air Force to prepare to return to the civilian work
sector. Program offers pre-separation counseling and a three day workshop to
help transitioning members convert Air Force skills to civilian work force
requirements and market them effectively. Program should be started
at least 6 months prior to date of separation.
