Child Protective Services
The Child Protective Services
program has the responsibility for programs and policy relating to child abuse
and neglect investigations, risk and safety assessment standards, child
fatalities, child abuse and neglect statistics, staff development concerning
child sexual abuse and the administration of federal child abuse and neglect
grant programs. In order to help child abuse victims through the court process,
Court Schools were established in Oklahoma and Tulsa counties to help children
who will be witnesses in court and their families learn about the courtroom,
court personnel, the judicial process and the language of the law. Child sexual
abuse continues to be an increasing category of child abuse. This particular
type of investigation requires a great deal of expertise, particularly related
to interviewing and courtroom testimony. The Sexual Abuse Specialists program
was developed to provide staff with greater expertise in this category of abuse.
