TRAFFIC: Colorado traffic laws apply on the
Academy. Seat belts are mandatory. Child seats/restraints
are mandatory for all children under 40 pounds.
VEHICLE CHECKS: All
vehicles entering the Academy are subject to search at any
time. Entry to the installation indicates consent to
search.
VEHICLE ACCIDENTS: Vehicle accidents should be reported to the
Security Police Law Enforcement Desk.
VEHICLE REGISTRATION (ON BASE): To
register a vehicle on base, it must meet all state registration requirements,
have current state registration and license plates, a current Colorado emissions
sticker, and proof of insurance. Vehicles are registered at the Pass
& Registration Section, which is located at the south gate entrance to the
Academy.
WEAPONS TRANSPORTATION/STORAGE: Firearms (excluding
BB guns, air rifles, etc.), bows and crossbows, large hunting knives, etc., may
not be stored in the Temporary Lodging Facility, Visiting Officer's Quarters,
Visiting Airmen's Quarters, enlisted dormitories, or in
vehicles. Firearms may be transported in privately owned vehicles to
and from authorized storage, from storage to off base, to Jacks Valley Range, or
to Academy deer hunts. Firearms must be UNLOADED and physically
separated from ammunition. Unloaded firearms may be transported in
the trunk, in a gun rack, or in clear view on the vehicle seat. Due
to heightened security measures, inform the gate guard that you have an
unloaded, registered weapon in the vehicle and your destination. Family Housing
occupants may store weapons and ammunition in government
quarters. The Security Police Armory (Bldg 8024) is an authorized
storage site for firearms. Crossbows, hunting knives, etc., may be
turned over to the appropriate unit first sergeant for secure storage in
dormitories. Weapons will not be stored at locations other than as
listed herein unless specifically authorized, in writing, by the installation
commander or designated representative. The Security Police can
answer questions and offer assistance on weapons transportation and storage.
