Harford County's Work Force Development
effort is a partnership of government, higher education and
industry. Working together, new and innovative programs in the area
of continuing education, higher education, vocational and professional training
have been developed to complement career awareness efforts and advanced skills
development programs designed to support and grow a productive, skilled and
competitive labor force.
The W.A.G.E. Connection is
under the direction of the Harford County Department of Social
Services. It is a one-stop, state-of-the art employment facility for
Harford County residents receiving temporary cash assistance.
The Maryland Job Service is located in Bel
Air. The Service operates as a broker between employers needing
workers and job seekers. Services provided for employers are: on-site
interviews, access to a computerized job listing system, qualified applicants
may be referred directly to the employer, and employers may request the Bel Air
office to act as the "recruiter" for job openings. Services provided
for job seekers are: employability assessment and job referrals, career planning
assistance, job testing, and other support service referrals.
The
Service functions along with 28 other offices in Maryland and electronically
through 1,800 Employment Service offices across the United
States.
Maryland's Career Net is a one-stop source
for information and services to assist in developing career
plans. They have access to information about available jobs and offer
assistance with career choices. They also have available education,
training, and information on the labor
market.
Harford Community College has
a Community and Business Service Division. They offer business and
industry training programs, customized on-site training, industrial/technical
training, computer certification training, and basic education skills upgrade
training.
